Remote IT Support

If the computer is online, there is a lot we can check.

Remote support works best for software and configuration problems where the computer still starts, connects to the internet and can run a support session. Hardware faults and physical installation work still need hands on the device.

Windows Windows troubleshooting Startup configuration, updates, settings, user-profile issues, application faults and general Windows troubleshooting where the system still runs.
Microsoft 365 Microsoft account & cloud issues Sign-in problems, Microsoft 365 applications, OneDrive, licensing symptoms and suitable cloud-service configuration.
Outlook Email troubleshooting Outlook profiles, send/receive problems, account settings, mailbox behaviour and common synchronisation faults.
Software Application problems Installation, configuration, crashes, updates and other software issues that can be diagnosed without physical repair.
Printing Printer queues & drivers Drivers, Windows printer mappings, queues and network-printer configuration where the printer itself is operational.
Browsers Website & browser problems Browser settings, extensions, cache, sign-in issues and troubleshooting websites or web applications from the affected computer.
Business User & workstation support Everyday business IT issues involving accounts, shared resources, software, cloud applications and workstation configuration.
Diagnosis Work out what needs to happen next Even where the final repair needs onsite work, a remote session can sometimes help identify whether the fault is software, network, vendor or hardware related.
Remote, Onsite or Workshop?

Use the support method that matches the fault.

Remote access is efficient when the issue exists inside a working computer. Physical faults, failed components and infrastructure work need a different approach.

Onsite Support Best when the environment matters
Wi-Fi coverage or network faults Router, firewall or switching work New workstation installations Physical printer or peripheral setup Office or multi-device problems
Workshop Best for physical computer repair
Failed hard drives or SSDs Hardware replacement Computers that will not start Data recovery work Detailed hardware diagnosis
What Remote Support Needs

The computer still needs enough functionality to establish the session.

If the machine cannot power on, has no usable display, cannot reach the internet or is suffering a serious hardware failure, remote support may not be possible. In those situations we can move to onsite or workshop support instead.

Internet A usable connection The computer needs enough internet access to start and maintain the remote support session.
Computer Windows needs to run If the machine cannot boot far enough to run support software, physical troubleshooting may be required.
Permission You initiate the session Remote access should only occur because you requested support and intentionally connected the device.
Hardware Physical faults remain physical Remote access cannot replace a failed drive, reconnect a cable or repair damaged hardware.
Not Sure Which Type of Support You Need? Describe the problem and we can decide whether remote support is the sensible first step.

If the computer starts and gets online, there is a good chance we can at least investigate the issue remotely before deciding whether anything needs to happen onsite.

Remote Access & Security

You should know who is connected and why.

Remote support gives a technician temporary access to the affected computer, so the process should be deliberate and understandable. You request the support, intentionally start the connection and remain in control of the device.

Support Session From support request to finished session. We normally establish the support request first, then direct you to the connection page. This avoids unexpected remote-access requests appearing out of nowhere.
Customer Initiated
01
Contact Request support Call or contact Computer Services Cairns and explain the problem before starting the remote session.
02
Connect Open the support link Once directed, open our Remote Help page and launch the support connection from the affected computer.
03
Approve Allow the session You intentionally approve or run the remote-support software needed for us to connect.
04
Support Watch the troubleshooting We inspect the computer, reproduce the issue where practical and make relevant changes with you present.
05
Finish End the support session Once the work is finished, the active support session is ended and you continue using the computer normally.
During the Session

Remote support should not feel like somebody disappearing into your computer.

For a normal attended support session, you can remain at the computer and see what is happening on screen. If we need to open a setting, application or file to diagnose the issue, the action should relate to the support work you requested.

Screen You can see the activity Normal attended support allows you to watch the troubleshooting taking place on your computer.
Mouse & Keyboard Shared control Remote control lets us operate the computer while you remain physically at the device.
Scope Access relevant to the job We may need to inspect settings, applications, logs or files that relate to the problem being diagnosed.
Sensitive Information Keep passwords private where possible If a password is needed, you can usually enter it yourself rather than reading it aloud or sending it in a message.
Sensible Security Boundaries

Remote access should be treated like physical access to the computer.

A technician controlling the machine may be able to see information that is visible to your Windows account. That makes clear consent, limited scope and careful handling of credentials important.

Consent You asked us to connect Do not approve an unexpected remote-access request from somebody simply because they know the business name.
Passwords Type them yourself Where practical, enter passwords or MFA codes yourself rather than providing the credential to the technician.
Banking Close unrelated sensitive applications You can close banking, accounting, password managers or other unrelated sensitive information before the session begins.
Access Support the requested problem The purpose of the session is to investigate and resolve the technical work you have asked us to perform.
Legitimate Support

You contact us first.

The safest pattern is simple: you have a computer problem, you contact Computer Services Cairns, and we agree that a remote session is appropriate.

You know why the technician needs access.
You intentionally open the remote-support page.
The work relates to the problem you reported.
You can independently call 0499 235 506 if anything feels wrong.
Remote Access Scam Warning

Unexpected calls asking for computer access should be treated cautiously.

Remote-access tools are also used by scammers. Do not grant access merely because someone says your computer has a virus, your internet has a problem or they are calling from a well-known technology company.

Do not provide online-banking credentials or card details because a caller asks for them.
Do not approve MFA prompts that you do not understand.
Do not install remote-access software for an unexpected caller.
If somebody claims to be us unexpectedly, end the call and contact us using our published number.

Remote Business IT Support

Everyday IT problems without waiting for an onsite visit.

Remote support can be particularly useful for businesses with several workstations, cloud services and staff who need help during the working day. Many account, software and configuration problems can be investigated without interrupting the office for an onsite appointment.

Microsoft 365 Microsoft 365 user support Help with suitable Microsoft 365 application, account, sign-in, licensing and workstation-side issues.
Outlook Email & Outlook problems Profiles, account configuration, send/receive faults, synchronisation and everyday Outlook troubleshooting.
OneDrive File sync & cloud access Investigate OneDrive sign-in, synchronisation, folder configuration and suitable workstation-side file-access problems.
Printers Office printer issues Drivers, queues, mappings and network-printing configuration where the printer and local network are functioning.
Software Line-of-business applications Troubleshoot the local Windows and workstation environment around accounting, CRM, POS and other business software.
Shared Resources Files, drives & access Investigate suitable mapped drives, shared folders, permissions symptoms and connectivity from individual workstations.
Accounts Staff access problems Help with account configuration, application access and common user-side issues during onboarding or day-to-day work.
Multiple PCs Repeat faults across staff Compare affected and unaffected computers to determine whether a problem belongs to one workstation or the wider business environment.
Staff Onboarding & Offboarding

User changes often involve more than creating one login.

New starters and departing staff can involve email, Microsoft accounts, applications, shared resources and the local computer. Remote access can handle much of the workstation-side setup while wider account changes are managed appropriately.

01
Account Prepare the user Confirm which business systems, applications and cloud services the staff member actually requires.
02
Workstation Configure the computer Set up required applications, Outlook, cloud access, printers and other relevant workstation settings.
03
Access Test the workflow Confirm the user can reach the files, applications and services required for their role.
04
Departure Remove unnecessary access Offboarding should account for business data, cloud access and application permissions rather than simply deleting a Windows profile.
Remote First, Not Remote Only

Sometimes the fastest onsite visit starts with ten minutes of remote diagnosis.

A remote check can help determine whether the fault belongs to one computer, a cloud service, an application, the local network or a physical device. If onsite work is still required, we can arrive with a much better idea of what needs attention.

One User Compare the workstation If everyone else can work normally, start with the affected user's computer, account and local configuration.
Everyone Look for a common dependency If multiple users fail simultaneously, the cause may sit with the network, cloud service, server or shared application.
Physical Fault Escalate to onsite If the diagnosis points to cabling, switching, hardware or another physical component, onsite work becomes the sensible next step.
Vendor Issue Gather useful evidence Logs, screenshots, error messages and connectivity tests give the software or cloud provider something meaningful to investigate.
Vendor Liaison

Stop bouncing between “your IT person” and “the software vendor.”

When a business application stops working, the fault can sit with the computer, network, account, cloud service or application itself. We can test the local environment and communicate useful findings to the relevant provider.

Software Vendor Application-specific faults Coordinate with the vendor where the problem relates to proprietary software, licensing, databases or their cloud service.
Microsoft / Cloud Account or service problems Separate workstation configuration from tenant, licensing or service-side issues before escalating where necessary.
Internet / Provider Connectivity investigation Test the local workstation and network symptoms before concluding that an ISP or external service is responsible.
Faster Triage See the actual error Remote access lets us work from the real symptom rather than trying to reconstruct it from a phone description.
Less Disruption Support without moving the computer Suitable problems can be investigated at the user's existing workstation without disconnecting equipment or transporting it.
Better Escalation Know when onsite is actually needed Remote diagnosis can prevent unnecessary site visits while still escalating physical infrastructure problems when required.
Business IT Support Cairns One workstation problem or several staff affected — start by finding the common point.

We can investigate suitable business IT problems remotely, assist users directly and move to onsite support when the issue turns out to involve physical infrastructure.

Know what remote support can — and cannot — do.

Remote support can be an efficient way to solve software, Windows, email and business IT problems without moving the computer. If the issue turns out to involve failed hardware, cabling or physical infrastructure, we simply move to the appropriate onsite or workshop option.

Remote Support Cairns

Local IT support without every problem requiring a site visit.

Computer Services Cairns provides remote support for suitable Windows, Microsoft 365, Outlook, email, software, printer and business IT issues. Onsite and workshop support remain available when the problem needs physical access.

Windows Computer troubleshooting Suitable Windows, software, user-profile and configuration problems.
Microsoft Microsoft 365 & Outlook Account, application, email, OneDrive and workstation-side cloud issues.
Business Remote IT assistance Day-to-day support for staff, workstations, applications and shared business resources.
Escalation Onsite when required Networking, hardware replacement and other physical faults can move to onsite or workshop support.
How much does remote computer support cost?

Remote support is normally billed as technical labour based on the work required. Contact us for the current rate or an estimate for a particular problem before the session begins.

Do I need to bring the computer to you?

Not for a suitable remote-support job. If the computer starts, gets online and can establish a support session, many software and configuration problems can be investigated where the computer already is.

What do I need for remote support?

The affected computer generally needs to start normally enough to access the internet and run the remote-support connection. If it cannot boot or has no usable connectivity, onsite or workshop support may be required.

Do I need to stay at the computer?

For a normal attended support session, it is useful to remain available, particularly at the beginning and whenever passwords, MFA prompts or questions about the problem need your input.

Can you remotely fix Microsoft 365 or Outlook problems?

Many Microsoft 365 and Outlook problems are well suited to remote support, including profiles, sign-in problems, account configuration, OneDrive and workstation-side application issues. Service-side or licensing problems may require additional tenant or provider investigation.

Can you help with a Mac remotely?

Remote assistance may be possible for suitable macOS software and configuration problems, depending on the issue and the remote-access method available. Hardware repairs and some system-level problems may still need physical access.

Can you fix printer problems remotely?

Often, if the problem involves Windows, drivers, queues, printer mappings or network configuration. A printer with a physical fault, paper-feed problem or failed hardware obviously still needs hands-on attention.

Is remote support private?

Remote support gives a technician access to the computer needed to perform the requested work, so it should be treated like physical access to the device. You can remain present, close unrelated sensitive applications and enter passwords yourself where practical.

Can you see all of my files?

A remote technician may be able to access information available to the signed-in Windows or macOS user, so the support session should remain limited to the work you requested. You can close unrelated documents and applications before the session starts.

Will you ever call unexpectedly and ask for remote access?

Remote support should be connected because you requested assistance or are already dealing with us about an IT issue. If you receive an unexpected call claiming to be Computer Services Cairns and asking for computer access, end the call and contact us directly on 0499 235 506.

Can you provide remote IT support for businesses?

Yes. Remote support is particularly useful for everyday staff and workstation issues involving Microsoft 365, Outlook, software, printers, cloud services and user configuration. Physical network and hardware faults can be escalated onsite.

What happens if the problem cannot be fixed remotely?

We can explain what the diagnosis indicates and move the job to onsite or workshop support where appropriate. Remote troubleshooting can still be useful because it may identify the likely failure before physical work begins.

Choosing the Right Support Path

Remote first where it makes sense — physical support where it does not.

There is no benefit in forcing every problem into the same support method. We use remote access for the jobs it suits and move to onsite or workshop work when physical access is genuinely required.

Remote Software & configuration Windows, Microsoft 365, Outlook, applications, cloud services, account issues and suitable printer problems.
Onsite Environment & infrastructure Wi-Fi, routers, switches, cabling, multiple physical devices, office installations and local network faults.
Workshop Hardware & recovery Failed drives, hardware replacement, non-booting computers, detailed diagnosis and data recovery work.
Remote Support Cairns If the computer starts and gets online, remote support is often a sensible place to begin.

Contact us first and describe the problem. If remote access is suitable, we will direct you through the connection process. If not, we can move straight to the right type of physical support.
